The Cultural and Leisure Administration is responsible for the Monastery in Ystad, Ystad Art Museum, Ystad Library, Youth House, Cultural School, Marietorp Nature School, Ystad Arena Swimming and Halls, Nybrostrand Beach, and sports facilities, as well as close contact with the associations. About 100 employees work here to create good conditions for a stimulating and active leisure and a rewarding, enriching cultural life for the residents of Ystad.

Ystad Art Museum has about ten employees and is currently organized within the Cultural and Leisure Administration. Ystad Art Museum is a central part of Ystad's cultural life, strengthening the city's attractiveness and identity. The museum's collection consists of several thousand works, primarily focusing on art related to Skåne and to some extent Denmark. In addition to regularly exhibiting its collections, Ystad Art Museum also showcases temporary exhibitions featuring contemporary artists.

Ystad Art Museum is the main organizer of the regional assignment, the art biennial Best Biennial, a southern Swedish regional initiative focusing on children and young people's encounters with art, emphasizing inclusion, communication, collaboration, and networking.

The educational work with children and youth is a particularly prioritized activity.

Ystad Art Museum is responsible for the maintenance of the municipality's owned public artworks and participates in the municipality's work regarding the 1% rule.

In 2025, the art collection will be moved to the new object storage facility in Ystad.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

We are looking for a museum director who will be responsible for strategically planning, leading, and developing Ystad Art Museum based on its mission, vision, and goals. You will have overall responsibility for the operations and for driving and developing the museum as a brand and visitor destination.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone who is a communicative and development-oriented leader with several years of leadership experience, preferably from the public sector. As a leader, we expect you to be attentive, clear, and structured. You have the ability to concretize visions for the museum's development together with your employees.

With a clear, transparent, and well-organized leadership style, you have the ability to engage, inspire, and create job satisfaction for sustainable employee engagement. You have a supportive approach with trust in your employees' experiences and knowledge, creating conditions for everyone to work towards common goals.

You are part of the Cultural and Leisure Administration, which through collaboration and cooperation ensures that Ystad continues to develop as a municipality with a strong cultural identity and attractiveness.

In addition, we would like you to have:

• A degree in art history, museology, or equivalent.
• Several years of documented experience as a manager, preferably from public cultural activities.
• Knowledge of and experience with museum collections and the specific societal mission of museums.
• A strong understanding of contemporary art, art history, and curatorial work.
• A good understanding of the importance of making art accessible to children and youth and new target groups.
• A network within the art and museum sector.
• Good ability to express yourself in Swedish and English, both spoken and written.
• A driver's license B is an advantage for the position.
